Welcome to the Birdcage
This is the home of a forum for Polyamorous people in New York State. Whether you live in Rochester, Syracuse, Buffalo, Olean, Ithaca, Potsdam, Southampton, Albany, Montauk, Sag Harbor or Sacket's Harbor -- if you live in, or have some connection with New York State and practice or are interested in any of the relationship styles known as polyamory, polyfidelity, or other related forms of responsible non-monogamy, then this is the place for you! We have online discussions about issues, news and experiences, and arrange local meet-ups wherever we have a large enough concentration of members so that people can put faces to the names.
- We are self-governing - our leaders are elected by the members every six months,
- We are open - the membership list is available to all Full Members
- and we respect privacy - members can choose what information, if any, they reveal to the membership. Discussions are not made available to any public search engine or to "Guests".
If you have questions about the "alternative lifestyle" known as polyamory we have a wide variety of people with different experiences, along with people who are currently struggling. So whether you have questions to ask, or would just like to help other polyamorous people feel less like the misfits that society often paints us, we would like to welcome you.

Milestones
- April 2009 : We opened this forum in a limited form, and have held monthly get-togethers in the south-east Rochester area in local restaurants since then, with at least 10 in attendance.
- October 23, 2009 : we opened membership for others to apply.
- October 30, 2009 : We have 45 members from all across the state.
- November 20, 2009 : We hit the 50 member mark.
- December 1, 2009 : Birdcage members have met up in diverse other locations such as Albany and Oswego, so the coverage is definitely spreading beyond the original area.
- December 13, 2009 : We hit the 60 member mark.
- January, 2010 : For the first time we have three get-togethers in a month - in Utica, Owego (together with the SouthernTier poly group) and Victor.
- January 14, 2010 : We reached 70 active members.
- April 30, 2010 : Our most active month so far by a long way. Three dinner get-togethers, plus coffee meets, and movie outings. Some great discussions!
- May 7, 2010 : After less than six months, we have reached the 100 active member milestone. Scheduled elections were completed for new forum leaders.
